What Is a Custom Gym Rig?
A custom gym rig is a structural steel framework designed and built to specification for functional fitness training. Unlike off-the-shelf equipment, a custom rig is designed around the specific dimensions, layout and functional requirements of the space it occupies — maximising training stations within the available footprint and incorporating exactly the attachments and accessories required.
Custom gym rigs are used in commercial gyms, CrossFit boxes, military and emergency services training facilities, university and college sports centres, hotel fitness suites and high-end private training studios.
Types of Gym Rig
Wall-mounted rigs attach to the structural wall of the facility and use the wall as one side of the structure. They are the most space-efficient option for facilities with limited floor area and are ideal for rooms where floor-to-ceiling height is restricted.
Free-standing rigs are structurally independent — supported on their own columns fixed to the floor. They can be positioned anywhere in the facility and do not require structural walls. Available in single and double-sided configurations.
Functional training rigs combine a structural frame with an integrated range of training stations — pull-up bars at multiple heights, monkey bars, rope attachment points, dip stations, battle rope anchors, landmine attachments and more. Designed for group training environments.
Competition rigs are built to the specifications of CrossFit, weightlifting and functional fitness competition standards. Used in competition venues and facilities that host sanctioned events.
Structural Requirements
Gym rigs carry significant dynamic loads — multiple athletes simultaneously performing pull-ups, muscle-ups and kipping movements generate impact forces many times their bodyweight.
